World Cup Qualification - 2008 - 2009
The qualifying matches for World Cup 2010 will be played over the 2008-2009 two-year period.

International Friendlies - 2008 - 2009
Scotland, typically take part in two friendly matches each year. Plus, with the Euro 2008 finals
taking place next year their will be demand for Scotland to provide a similar number of clashes
to compensate for the lack of international fixtures.
Current Scotland Friendlies:
Scotland 1-1 Croatia - Wed 26 Mar 2008
George Burley's first Scotland squad managed a respectable draw against Croatia. Having defeated England twice
in the Euro 2008 qualifiers, the Croats were favourites to come out ahead. However the Scotland team, despite losing an early
goal, produced an equaliser to finish the match tied one goal apiece.
England v Scotland - Summer 2008??
The 'Battle of Britain'. For now, this has been postponed. England expressed an interest in
Scotland visiting Wembley in the summer. However George Burley has temporarily vetoed the idea.
Club obligations for Old Firm players during the expected fixture date meant Scotland would have had
to field and under-strength team. Against the 'Auld Enemy' that is not an option.
Iran v Scotland - May 2008??
Scotland's last match against Iran was the infamous 1-1 draw in World Cup 1978.
This could have been a replay. Sadly, the match has been ruled out for the same reason
as the England game.
Czech Republic v Scotland - 30 May 2008
Scotland will play the Czech Republic in Prague on Fri 30 May.
George Burley and co. have organised what could be the toughest Scotland match of the year.
The Czech Republic are currently ranked 6th by FIFA. The Scotland team will have a hard battle
getting the better of the Czechs. But as anyone who watched the France - Scotland game knows
it will not be beyond Burley's men.

Scotland will host a match against Northern Irelnd in August.

Scotland missed out on qualification. Controversially losing to Italy in their final match the Scotland team were unlucky to miss out on
a trip to Austria and Switzerland. |
